Herman Cain says that the intrusive media coverage of "unfounded" allegations of sexual harassment prompted him to suspend his candidacy for the Republican party presidential nomination.

Mr Cain told Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman that he was "cutting it" in the race for the nomination, but he had decided to put his family's wellbeing first.
