Golden Jubilee: What will you be doing?
Celebrations at Buckingham Palace are underway as part of the four-day weekend to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The celebratory pop concert will go ahead on Monday evening despite a fire in the palace's west terrace. The weekend's celebrations also include fireworks displays, military parades and a National Service of Thanksgiving. However, the celebrations are relatively low key compared to the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. Then, there were street parties across the UK, five million people turned out to watch the monarch make her way to St Paul's Cathedral in a golden coach, and half a billion TV viewers tuned in worldwide. This time, Buckingham Palace is said to be reluctant to plan a national extravaganza for the Golden Jubilee in case of a low turn-out. So what are you doing for the Queen's Golden Jubilee? Are you holding a street party? Were you there in 1977? What are your memories?

I enjoyed watching the Jubilee concert on TV. Why was there not a member of the Rolling Stones performing?
I just wanted to say how impressed I was with Party at the Palace. Well done BBC. Are you going to repeat it? I'd love to see it again.
I'm currently in Sweden for four weeks as part of my gap-year and am so glad to see the celebrations back at home for the Jubilee haven't been a disaster as everyone thought. I've had a drink to celebrate Her Majesty's 50 years and have sung a heart-felt God Save The Queen!
Your antipodes will see the rock and roll concert this Wednesday night on the ABC. Wishing we were there.

The children in Edinburgh are all at school today! Isn't that a great way to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee!!!
If gaining popularity means loosing your dignity, the price is just too high. I mean the pop concert at Buckingham Palace on Monday night; not the way to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
What was saw Monday night was brilliant. That's what should have happened on the night of the Millennium celebrations - not the Dome. Well done BBC.
How fitting for the UK that its citizens celebrate 50 years of a royal family that has a huge financial debt, are adulterous and have the cheek to act as if they are wealthy. Most of the queen's subjects mimic these traits too. I thank my lucky stars that I left the UK in the early 80's and have never looked back!

You underestimate the amount of 'street parties'. We had a wonderful party last night (Monday)- the whole street came and we danced well into the night. We didn't apply for permission as we held the celebration across one person's garden frontage. Marvellous. Several of our friends did the same and are doing the same this evening.
The party was great. I was at Green Park, and have not slept because of work and the world cup. It was disappointing that the national anthem was not played when the queen entered the stage.
I will be waking up at 4:30 in the morning to throw my own little party as I watch the Jubilee on BBC America, while everyone else in the house sleeps. I will be lying on the couch eating the Hob Nobs I got from Scottish Fest and covering myself with my Harry Potter quilt, and giving a toast to the queen with my London mug. That's how I'm going to celebrate. Sounds like a bloody good time to me!
Being half English from my mother's side, I am very proud that Britain has a head of state like Queen Elizabeth. Her Majesty should be congratulated for her never ending efforts to represent British interests in the most appropriate manner. Her golden jubilee is a time to reflect a thousand years of culture and tradition. Click on the numbers to read more of your comments:
