High art for sculpture garden
![]() The statue is lowered into place in a giant oak tree
A work by the sculptor who created the Angel of the North has gone on show in Yorkshire.
Although it lacks the breathtaking scale of his most famous creation, Antony Gormley still grabbed the attention - by installing it up a tree. A crane was brought to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield to position the cast-iron figure 20-feet up in an oak tree. Janice Cox, from the sculpture park, said: "Antony Gormley came to the park and chose the exact location for the work.
"It may also give some of the visitors a bit of a shock when they look up and see it there." The figure "One and Other" - which weighs almost a tonne - is actually a cast of the six-feet-tall sculptor himself. Ms Cox added: "We are very excited about the addition of this work to the sculpture park and I'm sure it will prove very popular." Steel brace The sculpture was lifted gingerly into the air until it could be lowered into its new home. Engineers have designed a special steel brace which is attached to the tree to secure the sculpture. The tree is very close to the 18th century Cascade Bridge - one of the original architectural features of the old Bretton Country Estate which provides the home for the park. Another sculpture by Gormley, Rhizome III, is already on display at the site.
