The DUP's David Simpson has held on to the Upper Bann seat that he won from Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble in 2005. He polled 14,000 votes beating into second place Harry Hamilton of Ulster Conservative and Unionists who polled 10,639. John O'Dowd polled 10,237 votes and Dolores Kelly of the SDLP, 5,276. The Alliance Party's Brendan Heading received 1,231. Mr Simpson thanked his family and election team and said: "We will make every effort to try and make life better for the people of this constituency. "It's onwards and upwards and the motto in our party campaign was 'Moving Northern Ireland Forward' and it would certainly be my intention to move Upper Bann forward over the next five years."
