The SDLP's Mark Durkan has held his Foyle seat with 16,922 votes. Sinn Fein's Martina Anderson was second, polling 12,098 votes and the DUP's Maurice Devenney third with 4,489. Eamonn McCann, People Before Profit, polled 2,936 votes and David Harding, Ulster Conservatives and Unionists - New Force, 1,221. The Alliance Party's Keith McGrellis received 223 votes. Mr Durkan, who stepped down as SDLP leader in February of this year, took 44.7% of the vote in the constituency. His personal vote fell from a total of 21,119 votes in his election win of 2005. Counting in Foyle and East Londonderry was suspended for an hour and a half after a car containing a pipe bomb was abandoned at Templemore Sports Complex. Mr Durkan expressed regret that the election count had been disrupted "by those who seek to undermine the democratic process". He said those responsible "put forward no message and sought no mandate in the election". "Those who created the disruption tonight weren't out to damage the way of politics and political parties or political life, they were out to damage the democratic interest," Mr Durkan added.
