Peter Hain wants inquiry into count in Cardiff North
Newly-elected Jonathan Evans said it was hard campaign
Welsh Secretary Peter Hain has called for an investigation into the count in the marginal seat of Cardiff North.
The Conservatives' Jonathan Evans unseated former Labour MP Julie Morgan by 194 votes after a recount.
But Mr Hain said an additional recount was refused "when there were clearly serial and substantial errors, only some of which came to light".
The Welsh Conservatives said: "We are satisfied that everything was done by the rules."
A spokesman added: "The returning officer declared the result."
But Mr Hain has asked the Electoral Commission to establish an investigation.
"The returning officer should not have declared this result without a further recount and there was no good reason to refuse one," Mr Hain added.
"Julie Morgan does of course have the option of pursuing an electoral petition overturning the declaration of the result, but that is not a matter for me as Secretary of State."
