Israeli and Kenyan rescuers carry a survivor from the ruins

As Nairobi responded to the devastation caused by the bomb attack on 7 August 1998, correspondents spoke of the grief which gripped the city, but also of a spirit of solidarity which saw people rally round to help the survivors.

The blasts in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam killed 224 people and injured nearly 5,000.

The search for survivors continued on Sunday
