Turkish quake: Bulldozers move in
Bulldozers have started to clear away the wreckage of Turkey's earthquake last week, a day after the search for survivors was called off.
All foreign rescue teams are reported to have left the country, or to be on the point of doing so. The earthquake, which measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, hit the north-west of the country on 12 November.
Attention has now turned to the relief and clean-up operation, aimed particularly at providing shelter for victims of the quake. Freezing conditions Homeless survivors are struggling to keep warm in freezing weather. The government is having difficulties in supplying tents for all 80,000 homeless.
State Minister Hasan Gemici said that Turkey could afford to purchase more tents, but the government was having trouble finding any after providing more than 100,000 temporary shelters to people left homeless by an even deadlier quake in August that killed some 20,000 people.
