Goal of the week

Wayne Rooney's first Premiership goal provided a mouthwatering taste of the talent Everton have on their books.

This goal had everything: a teenage super-sub scoring a last-minute winner to secure the points for the underdogs and end the champions' record unbeaten run.

And to cap it all, Rooney's long-range effort was of such high quality that the 16-year-old has also made an early bid for goal of the season.

How Rooney scored

Thomas Gravesen picks the ball up near the centre circle and under pressure launches the ball looping forward into space on the right of the Arsenal defence...

Despite the presence of Lauren and Sol Campbell, Rooney instantly controls the ball, swivelling in the process so his body is facing goalward...

The youngster quickly looks up to check David Seaman's position before wrapping his foot round the ball and bending an unstoppable shot past the Arsenal goalkeeper.
