England's Cassie Jackman and Tania Bailey beat team-mates Linda Charman and Fiona Geaves to reach the final of the women's squash doubles in Manchester.

They will take on New Zealand's Carol Owens and Leilani Rorani, who knocked out the top-seeded Grinham sisters of Australia for the gold medal.

England will also be going for gold in the men's doubles after Lee Beachill and Peter Nicol beat Australia's David Palmer and Paul Price 13-15 15-9 15-9.

Defending champions Mark Chaloner and Paul Johnson of England won the bronze medal after losing out to Australians Stewart Boswell and Anthony Ricketts.

Jackman and Bailey won a dramatic encounter 15-3 16-17 17-15, leaving Charman and Geaves with the consolation of a bronze medal.

Jackman and Bailey were unstoppable early on, but Geaves and Charman refused to surrender and were always just ahead in the second game.

At 16-16 they were match-ball down but won the sudden-death point to take the semi-final into a decider.

The third game was also extended, but Jackman and Bailey gained the vital two-point margin.

"That was one of the edgiest matches I've ever played," said 29-year-old Jackman, from Norfolk, defending the title she won with Sue Wright four yearsago.

Geaves still has a chance of gold in the mixed doubles, after she teamed up with Chris Walker to beat women's world number one Sarah Fitz-Gerald and Paul Price 17-16 13-15 15-7 in the quarter-finals.

Their semi-final opponents will be Malaysia's Beng Hee Ong and Nicol David, who beat unseeded Welsh pair Karen Hargreaves and Gavin Jones.
