Bevan set for promotion
Bevan's batting has been confined to the nets

Michael Bevan is set for move up the order when Australia meet Namibia in the hope of some competitive batting practice.

The left-hander has played in their last three matches since recovering from a groin injury but was not been needed with the bat as they cruised to wins over India, Holland and Zimbabwe.

Captain Ricky Ponting is aware of the need to have all his batsmen in good nick ahead of the Super Six phase of the competition.

"Another game has gone by without Bevo having a hit.

"That was the only thing that was disappointing to come out of the game," said Ponting, following Monday's victory over Zimbabwe.

Thursday's match against Namibia will see Bevan make his 200th one-day appearance.

He has scored 6,028 runs at an average of almost 55 and is widely regarded as the best 'finisher' in the game - the batsman most capable of seeing his side to victory when chasing a target.

"The top order is performing extremely well and that is helping us win games.

"This is not new territory for me. It happened in 1996 when I didn't get a bat until the semi-finals.

"There is no doubt I will get my opportunity soon," Bevan commented.

Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz could also come into contention for a place in the side in Potchefstroom if he has recovered from jet-lag following a 14-hour flight.

Hauritz was called up to replace Shane Warne after the latter was handed a one-year ban from the game for failing a drugs test.
